stcyla: 1930s ad for Ironized Yeast Pills that would supposedly make women gain weight in order to be bikini ready in the summer. I know it’s beating a dead horse to talk about how frustrating today’s body ideals are. But seriously, y’all. I’m not sedentary and I obsess over the nutritional values of everything I eat, but I will never get down to a size whatever-that-mannequin-is. I will always look closer to the above picture, which, nowadays, doesn’t really fly (as in, it doesn’t represent the projected “perfect body”). HOWEVER, I think it’s important to point out that there’s always an alienated body type. Back when this ad came out, it was the skinny girls who could eat all they wanted and never gain weight. They were considered ugly, but now, those girls are envied. We can whine and bitch about how the “ideal body” has changed, and how, over the past 80 years, the scales haven’t tilted in our favor, but hey - ideals have always been unfair for somebody.
